Benefits of Social Media Marketing: Pinterest

From my ultimate dream wedding, to classic pinup hairstyles, I have created a Pinterest board for many of my random various interests and inspirations. The app/website is a visual wonderland and treasure trove of unique, high-quality content. You can get lost in rabbit-holes endlessly scrolling entertaining pictures. Of all the social media apps I personally use, I'd have to say I enjoy my Pinterest feed the most because of how pleasurable it is. The pictures are curated based on things I like, such as tattoos, burlesque, art, etc. There is no one complaining or horrible news headlines. It's a positive online space that many use as an escape from reality, a leisurely way to pass the time, or as a place to organize projects and dreams.

Little did I know before this assignment that beyond the consumer experience, Pinterest is also a great platform for businesses and creators! According to Driver, companies can market their products or services in a visually compelling way through a business account to 175 million active American members, of which 81% are female. Approximately "2 million of those members save content to a shopping board on a daily basis (Driver, 2023)." That is a lot of opportunity to make some sales. Business accounts allow companies to gain access to important features like analytics and advertisements, which are crucial for understanding the target audience and reaching them directly. Other features available to businesses are access to a lot of in-depth support and some pretty cool resources like a report called Pinterest Predicts. They just released one for 2023, and as a former fashion buyer that had to look out for trends, it was fascinating and insightful. My favorite predictions are: the Yolo Years, Mush-rooms, and All the Raves.

According to the site, 80% of the report's predictions have came true for the past three years. As a platform built on hosting awesome content, they have access to a plethora of search data that enables them to understand and predict trends accurately (Pinterest Predicts 2023, n.d.). Companies can use this resource, as well as many other provided tools to boost their brand to new customers. Businesses should definitely consider using Pinterest as a platform to market on because it really provides a lot of benefits like allowing them to get creative, educate their customers, build communities, and link visual content directly to their website which increases sales (Baker, 2022). I've noticed a lot of fashion brands specifically use the site to promote their products in an artistic lifestyle kind of way with the goal of having it repinned by an inspired user for later. Given that I'm one of the statistical users of Pinterest, I can definitely confirm that it happens all the time ;)

  1. Super impressive blog! I had not been on Pinterest in a while and I am so impressed with the amount of content and the layouts. And I just have to say Sailor Moon was one of the first anime characters my girls loved!
