Hello everyone. Today I thought I would tell you all about how I first began to model. It all started when I was 17 and in my last year in high school. I needed to take senior photos for my graduation class of 2014. The school works exclusively with the company Visual Photography to take senior pictures and ID cards so I set up an appointment for a photo shoot with them at their studio in Camarillo, CA. I chose the package of shooting with two different backgrounds and selected the garden in the pictures you see above, as well as a plain white background with photos I didn't end up going with.

When I arrived for my photo shoot with my mom in tow, the photographer Ronnie Slavin and her assistant greeted us warmly and guided us through the back garden of their studio. We picked different places to pose such as sitting on a rock, leaning underneath a tree, and lounging on a bridge. I felt natural and comfortable with the photographer because she was so friendly and professional, giving me helpful tips on where to look and position my body. My years of experience with dance was also pretty helpful to me as I tried to channel grace and poise.

After the session ended with Ronnie and her assistant, she told me that I the pictures had come out amazing and that I was definitely a natural at modeling. The following week her studio was going to be doing a catalog shoot for the store California & Main for their new collection of prom dresses designed by Sherri Hill, and I was invited to model for them! This was my first legit photo shoot as a beginning model. Here are how some of the photos came out:

Needless to say I felt gorgeous, classy, confident and amazing. This was a great first step into trying out modeling and seeing if it was for me. I got to dress up in fancy prom dresses and take home some beautiful pictures that I can look back on forever. It was definitely a great experience and left me wanting to shoot more! I asked Ronnie advice on what the next step was for me and she recommended creating a model mayhem account in order to start networking with other photographers and building up a modeling portfolio. I followed her advice exactly and have had great success using my model mayhem account for setting up many different kinds of photo shoots, all of which I can't wait to share with you!

  3. Hey, I am curious on how your accident affecting things, and how you remained so confident. Your beauty is truly stunning, but everyone has what they see as flaws even though others can't see them. My question is how do you overcome your flaws? For instance I have deep pores and acne prone skin that makes me feel very self conscious... and no matter how I think, no matter how much make up i wear or not it makes me feel.... as bad as this sounds ugly. :(

    1. Hello there! Thank you for taking the time to comment and for all the sweet compliments <3 I am so glad you asked the question that you did, because it is a very important and personal topic to me. My car accident left me with some pretty messed up skin and scar tissue, and I definitely still have times where I feel insecure about it, but what really helped me accept myself and remain confident is realizing that the time we have on this planet is way too short to be spent hating on myself and living uncomfortably. I got a second chance to live the life that was almost taken from me, and that in itself was all I needed to carry on, even if it meant being less "beautiful" or "perfect" according to typical societal norms. Looking in the mirror after everything that happened was definitely a big slice of humble pie but it forced me to realize that I am a survivor and as long as my soul and attitude were beautiful than life was gonna be ok. I know it's easier said than done, but you gotta dig deep and let that light shine from within. Hold your head up high and believe in yourself even when situations aren't ideal. Especially when situations aren't ideal. Those are the moments that define you the most. If you ever want to talk about this more, please feel free to message me! I'd love to help and offer more thorough insight on this, so I will make a longer blog post about this specific topic :)
